Guest Post: SoCal Dad Does Wimbledon

Greetings my fellow peeps and peepettes. This is Gareth, husband to SocalMom. But you can call me Sir.

After many years idling in the background, I have finally been honored with the opportunity to post on here.

I can’t mess this up. So, no bad language or inappropriate innuendo allowed, just intellectual witicisms. Dunno if I can do that. Oh well.

Uh, for my inaugural post, I am in Wimbledon, on Court Number 1.

But first some background. The only reason I am in Britain at all is because of Wimbledon.

But this post wouldn’t be as entertaining if I didn’t tell you all (I have lots of fans) of the lead-up to my Wimbledon trip. And you know what ? Everything in this post you are about to read is travel-related, which is what Donna’s blog is all about. How thoughtful of that is me !! Um …. how thoughtful of me is that ?

The Lakers

I'm not a huge sports fan, so only nominally follow our teams in the paper and only watch them on TV when they are vying for a championship... so I haven't paid a lot of attention to the Lakers this year.

However, I love actually going to a live sporting event. And so when my friend Debbie asked if Megan and I wanted to accompany her and Tanya to see the Lakers this afternoon, I jumped at it. (Actually, I offered Gareth the opportunity to join them -- basketball is the only American sport he enjoys, and neither of us have been fortunate enough to see the Lakers live and in person at Staples Center.)

Gareth evaluated the idea -- and as this is one of the last games of the season, the team is not in contention, and Kobe won't be there... he decided he would rather stay home and catch up on work. So I'll be going instead. (Rats! And here I thought it would be an opportunity for me to slip out and see "Fever Pitch," which opened while we were still away and looks like my kind of movie.)

Either way, it will be fun. Debbie's tickets come from her movie studio, and she says the seats are reallty good. I'll try to post some photos from my phone (if any of them come out OK.)
