If you follow me on Twitter, you might not realize that I actually love LAUSD's 3-week long winter break. We got to enjoy the holidays, take a short vacation in the Bay Area and SLEEP IN -- no hustling to wake up the kid, get her dressed and fed, make her lunch, make sure the homework's done and race to get to school by 7:50.
And don't forget: four days a week, I don't get to see her again until she gets home from gymnastics, close to 10:00 p.m. (Except on the days I pick up from school and/or drive carpool.) So I also have to make sure she has what she needs for gym (did you remember your leo? Do you have a scrunchie? Hair clips? A second sandwich, or money for dinner?)
So I wasn't exactly looking forward to the reboot of school...
...but I've definitely felt more productive than any time since mid-November, when the holidays seemed to take over EVERYTHING else.
Today was the REAL start of the New Year. For me.
I managed to catch up on email, finish two long-festering reviews, print out thousands of mailing labels for my virtual assistant job, work out details of the kid's Bat Mitzvah (Yes! I've ordered invitations and am signing catering contracts! There's no turning back!!)... and began the groundwork for more substantial posts on the MOMocrats blog.
I'm hoping to find time tonight to finally edit the video of the Amy Sedaris panel I alluded to in my PBS post last week. And then, I'll be jumping around in my timeline - writing about what's happening now between posts about our recent adventures in NorCal, as well as more from PBS.
That conference was the most fun I've had in a long time, and I came home with a huge backpack full of interesting books and DVD previews of some of the network's featured programs for the year.
So, since this is my REAL New Year, I thought it would be nice to kick it off with a contest:
If you've read me for a while, you know I'm not a huge sports fan... but like everyone else in this country, I watch the Superbowl. The game is one of the few events that all Americans share together (even if some of us just like to watch for the advertisements). It's practically a national holiday.
So when a nice rep from a well known beverage company asked me if I would be interested in giving away a Superbowl Party pack (estimated value: $250), I jumped on it. Come February 1, I'll be watching the game ads. I may even invite some football fan friends to enjoy the game drink with me. And I bet a lot of you will be doing the same. Find out what's in the pack and how to win it here.
