Do you ever feel like standing up in the middle of your living room and letting out a big SCREAM?
Because that's what I just did right now.
I'm swamped.
My life has been a muddle of email, work, gymnastics meets, worry about the economy, sleepless nights, Jewish holidays, housework, election coverage...
Yesterday, I was delighted to find out that we had a very special guest post over at MOMocrats: Michelle Obama! And - tomorrow night, I will be among the Southern California MOMocrats attending a special live blogging party to raise funds for the campaign. Details are here.
But today, I'm focused back on my daughter's crazy, unbalanced life, after she asked me to sign an algebra quiz she would have preferred I'd never seen.
Her teacher is suggesting that she come in for tutoring on her nutrition break.
The problem with that is she usually uses that time to catch up on the rest of the homework she did not finish after getting up at 5:00 a.m.
I posted about the homework/PE issue most recently at LA Moms Blog. The school district is sticking with their STUPID, ARBITRARY RULE that NOBODY gets out of PE in Middle School. Apparently, if we can stick this out through High School, "independent study" -- where her 16 weekly hour of gymnastics will count as her PE -- becomes an option again. That is, if we can manage to get through Middle School without forcing her to quit the sport because it's hurting her grades. And I would have to hope that the school district doesn't change that policy just before she gets to high school (as they did just before she started Middle School).
A couple of generous people have offered to help me fight the school district/state law, and I'll be taking them up on that - but of course, there's no chance of getting her the immediate relief she needs.
In the meantime, this is my cue to set up a conference with her algebra teacher to see if we can't find some other creative way to help her catch up.
So I'll be spending a lot of my time and energy this month focused on that.
