TARGET: 128
TOTAL LOSS: 6.2
I'm halfway to my target.
Before anyone gets excited: I don't know why.
I've pretty much stopped following the low-cal, low-carb regimen that has served me so well for two and a half years.
That hasn't been my intent. Breakfast each day has been coffee and an Atkins bar, with another Atkins bar mid-morning for a snack.
But by lunch, my resolve is all out the window.
I've been cooking a lot more this week, and so there have been a lot of leftovers. Unfortunately, no one in this house eats leftovers -- except me.
Yesterday, I ate almost nothing but carbs. I'd gone down to Santa Monica's Farmers Market with a friend, and after purchasing mass amounts of fresh, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables, we stopped at the Kings Head pub for some tea... and crumpets.
Lunch was a BIG bowl of leftover pasta I wanted to get rid of.
Dinner was a healthy stir-fry of chicken, broccoli, scallions, bean sprouts and baby bok choy, served over brown rice.
No afternoon or late night snacks. This is totally counter to what I was trained to do at the diet clinic, where they drilled into me that I needed to eat six light meals per day. This keeps your body from going into "fasting" mode, thereby keeping your metabolism burning hotter.
So I did not expect that I would be losing weight this week. I expected the opposite.
The only explanation I can think of is that since we got the dog, I've been the one doing the most dog walking. And the trek around downtown Santa Monica yesterday probably didn't hurt, either.
If I was smart, I'd immediately, buckle back down and follow the program. But I am enjoying living a life that includes carbohydrates, and I am having friends over for coffee tomorrow.
I know I can wake up tomorrow and be five pounds heavier.
But what if I'm not? What if all it takes is a tiny lifestyle change (three or four 20-minute walks per day)?
Time will tell.
