TODAY'S WEIGHT: 138.8
TARGET: 128
TOTAL LOSS: 2
So yesterday, I started the calendar over again and did Day 1 of a three-day regimen of eating nothing but nasty diet clinic food, and now I'm back to where I was for most of the week - before I blew it at Happy Hour with my friends.
No new social engagements looming for a couple of weeks, so I think I'm safe. We'll test that theory tomorrow.
The one nice thing about starting a diet in January is that I feel like the whole world is dieting with me.
I've been bombarded with press releases about diet programs, diet and fitness products, dieting advice, and weight loss tips.
Here's some I received from Wellspring Camps, which describes itself as "the leading weight loss organization for young adults and families across the US":
• Record steps per day on a calendar posted at your desk
• Seek parking spots and further away from destinations
• Walk to lunch destinations whenever possible
• Make a game out of guessing the number of steps it takes to go from one place to another
Walking to lunch from where I live in the San Fernando Valley is laughable - there's nothing around. Besides, right now, I'm relying on clinic food at home for most of my meals.
And I can't think of anything more boring than estimating the number of steps it takes to go from one place to another.
But there's merit to the first two suggestions. I already do tend to park in the Siberian section of the lot, mainly because it's easier to find spaces out there (and less likely to have a lot of cross-traffic that could result in a parking lot fender bender). The fact that it forces me to walk more is just icing on the cake.
And I do remember that when I started the clinic program, I wore a pedometer.
Somewhere in this torn-up house, I still have one. Maybe I'll find it when we get our shelving up and can finish putting all our stuff away. Maybe I shouldn't wait for that. After all, they don't really cost that much.
